Portland is well know for their craft beers so I couldn’t pass by without trying some of the local brews. I had not made a reservation so I had to wait 15 minutes when I got to Deschutes Brewery before I got a table.

It gave me time to look at the different beers they have to offer so when I got to my table I already had a good idea of what I would order. As I was looking at the beer menu I changed my mind seeing that they had a tasting menu which would give me the chance to try 6 of their beers in 4oz formats. After ordering a Classic Brews taster which presented the Deschutes River Ale, the Fresh Hop Mirror Pond, the Armory XPA, the Inversion IPA, the Black Butte Porter and the Hopzeit wich is their seasonal fall brew.

Menu had a lot of choices but I decided to go with for appetizer with the Northwest Clams. The mixed of the clams with chorizo verde, herbs, cream and artisans bread with Flanders Black Ale was excellent. I really liked the chorizo meat that was in the broth that made it different and also very tasteful. For main dish I had the Black Butte Porter Mac and Cheese. Again this mix of ingredients was very good. Fresh radiatore pasta with Balck Butte Porter cheddar, blue cheese sauce caramelized onions and Black Butte Porter sun dried tomatoes. I was trying to keep the order of the beers for the tasting but with this dish of course I had to go with the Black Butte Porter.

Food was excellent and so was the beer and this brewery’s got some good character to it. It seems the perfect place to meet with friends and I even saw a few couples enjoying beers and food. I would suggest a reservation even if I got a table quite fast as it was a weekday I’m pretty sure weekends get a lot busier.
