Little Kook Athens – A Themed Café in Monastirakiou

Little Kook is one of those places you can’t miss. The entire façade is decorated like a movie set and the theme carries through every part of the space. It is a café but it feels more like walking into a storybook. It is also as Instagrammable as the ruins with less history.

Walking down the alley that leads to the entrance gives you a good idea of what to expect. The decorations start well before the door and the whole path feels like part of the experience. Most of the tables are outside and the entire patio is decorated. It was hot during our visit but they have parasols and fans which makes it comfortable enough to sit and enjoy the space.

We were walking in Monastirakiou and made a quick stop here for something to eat. We ordered the club sandwich and the Greek bagel. Both plates were well presented and the portions were generous. The food is simple but good and the savory options use fresh ingredients. The menu focuses on straightforward sandwiches, crepes, and bagels along with their well known desserts. According to their descriptions they use homemade recipes and pure ingredients especially for their pancakes and sweets.

For dessert we tried the Alice High Heel cake. It is one of their themed creations and it looks as impressive as the rest of the décor. The presentation is playful and the portion is large. Little Kook is known for oversized visually focused desserts including tall cakes, stacked pancakes, and Greek style donuts with honey or chocolate. Most items are made to be shared and photographed and the presentation is the main attraction.

Make sure you visit the bathrooms. They are decorated just as heavily as the rest of the place and feel like part of the experience.

If you like themed cafés or want a fun stop while exploring the neighborhood it is an easy place to add to your list. The food is simple but good the desserts are the highlight and the décor alone makes it worth seeing at least once.
