After a day climbing around the Acropolis, or after getting a little lost among the souvenir shops of Plaka, Trattoria Plaka is an easy, satisfying place to land. It’s right in the middle of the neighborhood, tucked into a charming little square, and it’s been serving Athens since 1972.
The menu leans into both Greek and Italian cooking, so there’s something for everyone at the table without anyone having to compromise. We went with two classics: the mixed grill and the pastitsio.
The mixed grill arrives piled high: meatballs, sausage, kebab, lamb chops, chicken, pork, tzatziki, pita bread, fries, and tomato. It’s built for sharing, and it’s the kind of plate that makes you glad you didn’t order dessert.

The pastitsio was just as solid: fresh minced beef, tubular pasta, and a thick béchamel sauce baked into a satisfying block. Comfort food done properly.

Both dishes hit that sweet spot after a long day of sightseeing: hearty, straightforward, and no surprises, in the best way.
