My favorite drink is by far the Old Fashioned. Unfortunately not everyone, even if they think they do, can make a really good one. One place that can make a great one is Barroco. I use to stop from time to time with friends and enjoy their Maple Old Fashioned, a twist on the original with a slight maple taste and topped with a Bourbon Cherry. Since it was my birthday week I ended up visiting the establishment quite a few times and got more familiar with their menu as well.
If you’ve never been the place is not very big but has a very warm decor. The well stacked bar at the back with is my favorite spot to enjoy a drink and food at. I would strongly suggest a reservation as it gets busy pretty much everyday of the week. If you’re not into Old Fashioned they obviously have a full bar, some signature cocktails and a wine list available by the bottle and some by the glass.
Good thing about visiting a place a few times is that I got to enjoy several of the dishes on their menu. On my first visit I had the Oysters topped with Foie Gras Poelé. It was good mix but I actually enjoy both of them more on their own. As for main course I had the braised Duck Leg Parmentier (sheppard`s pie) served with bay leaf & coriander sweet potato purée with on top a piece of seared Foie Gras and Parmesan Shavings on Aragula salad. If you like duck and foie gras this is the perfect dish to have, the piece of Foie Gras was pretty big and the overall taste was excellent. I also tried the olive oil roasted Arctic Char served on broccolini, cashew pesto, porcini carpacio and parmigiano-reggiano crumble. It might not sound like it but this was a lighter choice and it was also excellent. The last dish I tried was the Paella Barroco with shrimp. scallops, chorizo and squid. The seafood were fresh and it was tasty but I had better overall Paella`s before and I guess I was expecting more after having experiencing the other items on the menu.
An overall great place for fun with friends or a date. There are obviously other items on the menu that you can view on their website. Whatever you choose to eat, do me a favor and try out their Old Fashioned and let me know if I`m wrong to think it`s one of the best one in the city.
