If you have been following Iron Chef America for a long time you’ve probably heard of Rob Feenie, he was the first Canadian to win that show. In 2008 he joined the Cactus Club Cafe as Food Concept Architect so going there you can enjoy some food inspired by him.

I visited the Yaletown location for lunch and Coal Harbour location for diner. They also have several other location that you can find on their website.

At the Yaletown location and friend and I shared the Spicy Chicken and the Meatball as appetizers. I have to say that the Spicy Chicken was very good with the sweet chili glaze and the crispy wontons. As for the Meatball they were also good but I was a little disappointed in the texture as it was more like meatloaf than meatballs been really compacted. I’m use to Italian food and it was not what i’m use too. For main I had the BBQ Duck Clubhouse that was amazing. This is a nice twist on the conventional club using Peking duck, roasted chicken and prosciutto on pecan fruit bread. This is definitely something you have to try if you go there as the mix of tastes marries perfectly.

At the Coal Harbour location I started with the Tuna Stack which is a little like a tartar made of albacore, citrus tamari vinaigrette, nori, sesame, avocado and cilantro served with wonton chips. For main I had the Creole Steak and Prawns a nice 9oz Angus beef sirloin with Cajun spices top with spicy creole butter. If you’re not in to spicy I would stay away from it as they have other nice cuts. It’s not very hot (for me anyways) but could be for others, but I simply loved it. It was served with white wine sauteed jumbo prawns, buttered mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus.

They also have a very good wine list with a good range in price on top of a full bar with signature cocktails.

I’m not usually into chains but I have to say that the food is very good and you can see a good consistency in the quality and ingredients. They also opened a location in Toronto so if you see one of their locations on your path it’s worth trying it out.
