When it comes to Chinese food there’s the buffet level, the 4am after clubbing level and the I’m in the mood for real good Chinese food level. Szechuan Par Mr Ma falls in the latter category. For those of you who experience Mr. Ma at Place Ville Marie, it’s the same people behind it but with a new location in Old Montreal.
Szechuan cuisine, is my favorite style of Chinese cuisine with it’s bold and spicier taste. I actually ordered twice from this restaurant. The first time was to try out some shanghai style noodles. I have that thing that depending on the type of cuisine I will order specific dishes to base myself on. If they can’t get a specific dish right I have low or no expectations for the other dishes on the menu. For Italian restaurants it’s gnocchi for Chinese it’s shanghai noodles.
Since I ordered twice I’m sure you guessed the noodles were good and you are right. I like when the noodles are cooked right and that they are not all stuck together. The sauce is also not too thick and made with fresh ingredient. This met the criteria’s and the cherry on top was that I didn’t eat it all and the next day when I got it out of the fridge the sauce was still liquid and not gelatin like.
The second time I ordered was after some friends saw my post and suggested I tried a few dishes that they really liked. I have to admit that the Peanut Sauce Chicken Dumplings and the General Tao Chicken were also awesome. The peanut sauce was rich and creamy and the dumplings held together and were not coming apart as I was eating them. The General Tao had a light batter and not overly deep fried. It was also spicy enough but not call 9-1-1 spicy which made it just right.
The quality/price is very good but do expect to pay a bit more than some other restaurants. You can order on Uber Eat, they have a Facebook page but no website.
