A few months ago when I got a text from my foodie partner saying she had gotten us a reservation at Joe Beef I just couldn’t wait to try it. Having tried Vin Papillon and Liverpool House I had great expectations for this Montreal well known establishment and their menu. If you’re not from Montreal you need to know that it can be pretty hard to get a reservation so if you plan to visit the city and want to eat here you should plan ahead. A little trick if you haven’t booked in advance is to use the DINR app. I was told they confirm reservations in the afternoon and any cancellation go up on that app.
Menu when you come in is also written on a blackboard but what differs from my experience in their other establishments is that the waiter went over each item with us. Wine list is also on a blackboard and just like the two other restaurants they have a great range of wine and prices to accompany your meal.
We decided to do it right and share all of our plates to get as many different plates and taste as possible. It’s always hard I find in a restaurant like this to choose, you’re always wondering if you’re picking the right dishes as everything looks like it would be an awesome experience.
For starters we had the Boston Crab cannelloni’s and the Rabbit Pate de Campagne. Cannelloni’s were generously filled with crab and covered with a sauce that was not too rich and kept the taste of the crab. The pate was also very good and was not mashed in to little pieces and came as a pretty large portion as well.
As for main course we decided on the Veal Liver topped with Cep and Paris mushrooms and the Pork Loin with Lobster sauce and Rubiole. The liver was cooked to perfection and the mushrooms paired perfectly with the liver. As for the pork loin the fork was enough to cut the meat, the lobster sauce also gave it a distinctive taste that also paired very well with it. The Rubiole which is also known as white turnip was also a good match for this dish and just confirms why this restaurant is so praise and often fully booked. We let our self’s get tempted by the Paris Brest for desert that we share and that was also succulent. The execution of the dishes were perfect there is not one of those dishes that I regret choosing. The staff is also very courteous and knowledgeable in both the food and wines they offer.
At this point I’m thinking of my next visit and experience at this restaurant and might have to show up on a regular base as the menu also changes even if they keep their popular ones.
Restaurant is only open for diner Tuesday to Saturday from 5:00PM until close
