A few weeks ago I was invited to the Petit Lapin second anniversary. The event took place at Station 16 on St-Laurent and it was a different concept to have sweets in an art gallery. I try to stay away from sweets as much as possible but as the saying goes “when in Rome” so I let myself tempted to try some cupcakes. I thought they were very good and only found out after that  Petit Lapin is a bakery that specializes in sweets that are allergy free providing products that are also organic and vegan. I have to admit that I was very surprised that it did not affect the taste in any ways.

As for Petit Lapin, the whole concept started 2 years ago when owner Viviane Nguyen wanted her son to enjoy a birthday cake despite his many food allergies. She called many specialized bakeries in Montreal only to discover that nobody could make this allergy free cake. Taking the matter in her own hands she decided to create her own cake and was able to bake various sweet treats and decided to start Petit Lapin.

Naturally there a lots of allergies out there but Petit Lapin are careful at selecting ingredients that are rigorously controlled. The staff is train to work in an environment free of the 10 priority allergens following the most severe food safety guidelines availble.

These are the 10 priority allergens that Petit Lapin sweets are free from:
* Dairy
* Eggs
* Soy
* Wheat and Gluten
* Peanuts
* Tree nuts (almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts,     pistachio nuts and walnuts)
* Fish and seafood
* Sesame
* Sulfites
* Mustard

As mentionned before the products are also organic and vegan. Of course zero risk does not exist but they promise to take all possible precautions to ensure the quality and safety of its products and epinephrine injectors are always available at the store.

Petit Lapin as a store in Westmount but will also cater for private events such as baby shower, birth celebration, gender reveal party and weddings. They can also cover corporate events, office parties, Christmas parties and so on.

If you or a member of your family as severe allergies this might be a solution for you to really enjoy a party like everyone else does. If you’re simply in the gluten free lifestyle this will also be a good place for you to purchase lots of different sweets. As you’ll see from the pictures below all their creations look pretty yummy.
