Who doesn’t enjoy the sun during the winter months especially if you’re from an area that gets covered with snow. I got to take a little break and head to Miami for a 4 day trip and it felt good to get away from the snow.
Four days is not a long time and I was also visiting a friend who was celebrating her birthday so I decided to get an hotel close by so we could see each other easily. I made a reservation at the Marriott Dadeland which was close by. If I would have known it was next to the train station I would have definitely taken the train from the airport to get there avoiding all the heavy traffic I got on the way in. The hotel is well located next to the Dadeland Mall if you need to do some shopping and if not there’s a lot of restaurants in the mall if you don’t feel like hitting the town.
With the heavy traffic the train was the perfect solution for me to get to Miami. A short 20 minutes ride took me right downtown and from there I could take a Uber to pretty much anywhere I wanted to go. You can buy some day passes for the train that give you unlimited access for the day. I started by taking a walk to the Bayside Marina which also got me to walk by the American Airline Arena, home of the Miami Heat and the Freedom tower.
The Bayside Marina as a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants. The view is pretty nice once you get along the water. If you want to book some bus tours, cruises or other activities that is also the place to go to. The Bayfront Park a little bit south is more relaxed if you’re just in the mood for a walk with a view.
I then headed for lunch in the Wynnwood/Edgewater area to a restaurant my friend had recommended Sugarcane. That area is pretty cool it’s very artsy and there quite a few other restaurants to choose from as the Prohibition that I also got to try.
I was more in the mood for a getaway and I had not planned to spend time by the pool or on the beach but having been to Miami many times you can always hit South Beach if you want to enjoy the sun and the ocean. Although I didn’t go on this trip I usually always go spend time on Ocean drive and I really like the Lincoln road area where there’s lots of good restaurants and cool little stores.
We went out to cool Latin Club on the Saturday El Tucan was really cool and we had lots of fun.
