Take-Out: Roch Le Coq

I shared my view on chicken in the past and yes I’m more a fan of rotisserie than fried chicken, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like it. Some fried chicken I find taste just too oily and greasy with tasteless batter. I have to be honest I was not looking for fried chicken when I looked up Roch Le Coq. I saw that the Chef Paul Toussaint (Agrikole, Kamuy) had done a special chicken burger recipe and that’s how I ended up looking them up. I figured if he was associating himself with the place it had to be good.

That burger did look good but I figured if I will try the restaurant might as well try their specialty, fried chicken. Now I’ll say it again I hate having to eat alone, not that I get lonely but because I always have to over order if I want to try what I want. Loyal to this new reality and while looking at their menu I ordered family size once again.

I’m not really portraying myself as a victim here but don’t get me wrong I don’t mind having left over of those fantastic places I try. On that specific occasion I decided to order the 7 pieces bucket. This comes with 2 coleslaws, fries and gravy so you’re all set with that combo.

I’m happy I got to try it as this was great Fried Chicken. First the batter had taste and was not floury, second the chicken was not dripping in oil or fat and another proof of it was when I reheated the left overs there was not oil all over the baking pan. The gravy was also very good, it had a nice spicy taste and was not a block of gelatin the next day. I eat my fair share but 2 pieces of chicken with some coleslaw and fries took care of my appetite that night.

Fried Chicken fans give it a shot and let me know what you think. I’m also always open to suggestions for places to try, feel free to leave them in the comments.
