Snowshoeing: Mont-Sourire and Petit-Carcan

This is a 7.4 km loop hike located in St-Donat with a 323 meters elevation gain. The drive from Montreal is about an 1 hour and 45 minutes. The trail is accessible from Chemin de la Cascade parking lot. There is not that many spot in the parking and limited space along the road to park so you should think of getting there early enough.

The hike is moderate, but it starts right away with a climb first kilometer and a half is a 200m elevation gain. The trail is also well marked and there are signs at every crossroads and a few maps along the way. You could decide to add to your day by or adding the Refuge de la Chouette or doing the Lac Carcan loop. They are both easy to add without having to do any detour, just look at the maps and you will see how to get there.

The bonus of starting with the immediate elevation gain is the immediate pay off. The view from the Mont-Sourire is spectacular notwithstanding the season. I have been there early fall and the winter view is not as colorful but still awesome. On the Petit Carcan trail you will also have two other view points that have another perspective.

St-Donat has a lot of great trails and when you look at the map in the parking you will see that you can go there several times and doing different trails that can range in distance. It’s a great go to place if you decide last minute to hit the trails, since it’s free you won’t run into the ”SOLD OUT” issue that you get in several other parks.
